Q: What should I feed my Great Dane?
A: We recommend a high quality adult food between 21-24%
protein. For many years we fed Nutro, however due to recent
recall concerns, we are currently feeding Eukanuba Naturally
Wild Venison and Potato. We still stand by Nutro products, but
until we are sure the product is safe, we will stay with Eukunuba,
which we are very happy with and our dogs love it!

Q: What supplements are OK to give my great dane?
A: Different breeders have supplements that they like and that
may work for them. We use only Flexicose, MSM and Salmon Oil
at this time.

Q: Do you ship your puppies?
A: Yes, we ship our puppies. We are located in Florida, so
weather does dictate when we can ship, however we have had
good experiences and feel comfortable doing so. The price of
shipping is additional to the price of the puppy.

Q: Do you do health testing?
A: Yes, we are firm believers in health testing. It shows the
breeder has done everything they can humanly do to ensure
the litter is healthy. However health testing is not a guarantee
and mother nature has the last say.

Q: What is a DNA profile?
A: When both parents and the dogs in your puppies pedigree
has a DNA profile, you can rest assured that your puppy's
relatives are who we say they are. We believe in "preserving the
pedigree". Each of our puppies comes with an AKC DNA
application test kit.

Q: Can I breed my puppy?
A: Della pet/companion puppies are sold on limited registration
only with a spay/nueter contract. Pet puppies may still compete
in obedience, agility, pet therapy and other activities. Pet
puppies cannot be bred or participate in the conformation ring

Q: Can I show my puppy?.
A: Show Potential puppies are available and are sold on an
individual basis. We co-own some puppies, while others are sold
outright to experienced show homes.

Q: My puppy is limping, what should I do?
A: Many breeders will  tell you that puppies, especially big male
puppies can go lame from the 3-6 month age range. The first
thing to do is check the food you are feeding. If the protein is
too high, switch food immediately to a high quality food with
21-24% protein. Next make sure your puppy is getting enough
exercise. Do not run or jog your puppy, any forced regiment is a
no-no.  Regular playing and running around is usually good
enough. Making sure  that your puppy is not crated all day is
essential. You should also check to make sure your puppy has
adequate thick and comfortable bedding. If your puppy should
go lame, we recommend following the steps above and also
increasing the Flexicose and MSM supplement daily. Most
people confuse this with hip Dysplasia. People will take their
puppy to the vet complaining of lameness, and since most vets
aren't familiar with giant breeds, they will diagnose Hip
Dysplasia, sometimes without even taking an xray! Della Danes
recommends an xray if lameness persists but it has to be sent in
to OFA or Pennhip for an accurate reading, as most vets don't
realize that Dane Hips are the loosest during this time period
and could give a false diagnosis/prognosis of the puppy. Most
of the time, this lameness is due to very rapid growth and if
managed correctly, it will go away and your puppy will have no
lasting effects.

Q: Can I use my own kennel prefix in my puppy's
registered name?
A: No, Moving Forward Della Danes will not
permit the use of any other kennel prefix anywhere in the
registered name.

Q: Can I choose my own registered name?
A: Absolutely, you can choose your own name, unless there is a
theme to the litter, and the name has to be approved by Della
Great Danes.

Q: Can I get my puppy cropped?
A: Yes you can get your puppy cropped. Cropping is an
additional fee. We do not recommend that pet puppies be
cropped.

Q: When can I get my puppy?
A: It is the law in Florida that each puppy sold has a health
certificate from a vet and be 8 weeks old. These are also the
regulations for shipping via airline.

Q: When can I give my puppy his rabies shot?
A: We would prefer you do not give a rabies shot until the puppy
is at least 6 months old. We do not feel their systems can
handle this at a younger age. Giving the rabies shot too early
can result in a negative vaccine reaction including fever,
lameness, seizures and even death.

Q: Do you have any available Stud Dogs?
A: Currently we have one stud dog available to approved
bitches. Della's Pro Bono aka "Kunga" is pictured on our site.

Q: Do you ever have black puppies?
A: To date we have not had any breedings that would result in
black puppies, however we are considering future breedings
that could result in black pups. (Updated July 2009)

Q: Are you planning any more fawn breedings?
A: Currently (July 2009) we are not planning any more
breedings in fawn. This may change in the future, please check
back with us. We are working hard and focusing on our blue line.

Q: How do you feel about the BARF diet?
A: We think the BARF diet is great. We are not against Raw or
Holistic diets. We have customers that feed RAW and we are
fully supportive. However we choose to feed kibble for various
reasons. We do not feel either is right or wrong, just a
difference in preference.

Q: How can I get a copy of your contract?
A: Send us a quick email and ask to see our contract. We will
reply with the contract attached.

Q: Is my deposit refundable?
A: Yes! Your deposit is fully refundable. If your choice of gender
or color is not available, your deposit will be returned promptly.
You also have the choice to transfer your deposit to another
litter. We do not normally accept deposits until pregnancy is
confirmed.

Q: How much do the puppies cost?
A: Our puppies range anywhere from $2000-$6000 depending
on Quality, Color and contract/ownership agreement.

Q: What kind of information does my new puppy come
with?
A: All Della Great Dane puppies come with a fully informational
puppy packet. This packet contains information regarding
feeding, growth, potential problems, management, training, web
links and much more.
The Answers below only pertain to Della Danes and the
puppies we have bred.  It is important to always ask
your breeder if you have questions regarding your
puppy's health. Your breeder knows what is best for
his/her line and that advice should always be followed.
